DIY Day ~ The Beach Edition is a post from: A Soft Place to Land

We’re back! Our week of vacation in Rehoboth Beach was fantastic. Lots of fun, family and food. And a little bit of sunburn, but we don’t need to discuss that.

I started going through my pictures and I am not in one. single. picture. Not one! Is that how it is with you? According to the photographic evidence, I ceased to exist shortly after our first son was born. I guess that’s the lot of the main picture taker.

Of course, I had to do a little junkin’ while on vacation. The eastern shore is full of fantastic antique and flea-tique stores. Beach Plum Antiques in Bethany Beach was new to me but it’s sure to be a regular stop now that I’ve discovered it. I’m so lucky to have a cousin-in-law who loves thrifting too. She’s always up for a side trip. Thanks Kathy!

So much awesome stuff on the porch outside! A little tip for you: When shopping at an antique store, pay special attention to the stuff outside. That’s usually where you’ll find the best bargains. They put the good (translation: expensive) stuff inside, but the outside is usually reserved for the cheap stuff.

Check out this old row-boat filled with painted buoys. I wanted to fill my van up with them!

Giant fake marlin anyone?

If you can believe it, I didn’t buy anything. Mostly because our van was packed solid with beach toys, beach chairs and luggage. Not an inch to spare. It nearly killed me to walk away from such good junk.

Since I am still in beach mode, I thought we’d have a DIY Day ~ The Beach Edition tomorrow. That would be Tuesday, August 10th.

Welcome to the final (at least for now) DIY Day on ASPTL! It’s been nearly a year since I started DIY Day on a whim. Every week, you all have blown me a away with your creativity and talent. But it’s time for some changes around here.

DIY Day has been successful beyond my wildest dreams. Most weeks there are 350+ links because you all ROCK! And if this were a better planned Season Finale, I’d have some fabulous cliff-hanger that would leave you wondering all summer.  “Will she paint that bookshelf?” “Is that basement EVER going to be finished?” But I’m not a good planner like that. So you get the abrupt ending instead.

While I’m sad to see DIY Day go for now, I’m looking forward to hosting other types of parties on occasion. I’m also looking forward to having my Monday nights free.

But FEAR NOT! On occasion, I’ll bring DIY Day back, so keep your eyes open for it. I can’t bear (bare? barre?) to let it go completely so maybe we’ll do it once a quarter. I’ll keep you posted.

My Design Guide is the brainchild of Champe Granger and Roger Bouchard. They are experienced home renovators who LOVE a good bargain (my kind of people!). They created My Design Guide for people who want real, professional, custom interior design, but don’t want to pay a lot for it.

My Design Guide offers online design consultations for simple things like paint selection and window treatment recommendations, all the way up to complete custom room designs! They can help you with your project whether it’s big or small.

Their design consultations include gorgeous 3D pictures that show what their recommendations will look like in your room. Here’s one of my favorites:

One of the things I love best about My Design Guide is that their designs are based on products from affordable stores that we all know…Target, Ballard Designs, Pier 1, Walmart, Overstock.com and others. At the end of your consultation, you’ll receive a shopping list with every suggested item on it. It will contain prices and links to the stores where you can find the products.

And even if you can’t afford the specific item that they suggest, you can use it as inspiration to do it yourself or find something similar at a thrift store.

Today, we have a super-fun prize from the gals at The Cupcake Tower! The Cupcake Tower was created by two darling sisters, Joy and Jennifer, after their Grandpa made something similar for their younger sister’s wedding. These gals are now designing and building these beautiful cupcake towers that are worthy of your celebrations.

The towers are available in sizes from tiny (holds 32 cupcakes) to large (holds 208 cupcakes). Each tower has a laminate coating so you can wipe it clean and you can FOLD IT FLAT for storage! That’s huge, people! No storage problems!

I think my favorite part is that you can choose the ribbon detail for the edge to customize the cupcake tower for your event or party. Then you can easily remove it and replace it with another color or pattern for another celebration. Cool, huh?

I got to know The Rusted Chain well over a year ago when I purchased a personalized necklace for a dear niece with an unusual name. It turned out beautifully and I’ve been a fan of her personalized jewelry ever since.

I was blessed to get to know Richella through her blog, Imparting Grace. You know how you just connect with certain people? That’s how it was with Richella (pronounced rih-shell-uh). I read a little of her store here and here and I knew she was my kind of people. Not perfect. But trying.
