Giving Back:: The House Blogger Way

in Giving back

I heart Kate from Centsational Girl.

Not only is she an incredible designer and DIYer, but she has a heart as big as 10 cans of spray paint. How she manages to keep such a big heart inside such a tiny body is beyond me.

I’ve known for a while that she’s had a deep desire to give back by fixing up spaces for people who really need it. In her own words, “there are real people with real needs who need real solutions”.

So I got a little misty this weekend when I saw that Kate and her husband have launched The Alma Project. Through The Alma Project, they will transform a fixer-upper house into a into a comfortable, functional home for women who desperately need it. Talk about serving in the ways that you are gifted!

They’ve already adopted their first home that is housing 3 previously homeless moms who are putting their lives back together and learning skills that will allow them to support themselves and their children. The Alma Project is going to fix up their house to make it more functional (and I’m sure more beautiful too).

If I lived anywhere near San Fran, I’d be there in a heartbeat with my nail gun. But I can help by making a donation.

If you want to learn more about The Alma Project and how you can help, check out this post on Centsational Girl. You can also see more pictures of the house they’ve adopted and see some of Kate’s plan for fixing it up.

If you live in the area, they have a huge list of needs including beds, dressers, storage containers and more. If you’d like to make a monetary donation, you can do that too.

I am so excited to see the progress of their first house and see where this leads for Kate and her family. I’m honored to know her.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

It reminds me of the groups that donate their trade skills to help soldier and sailor families, e.g. fix a leaky sink, or repair a computer.

Wouldn’t it be nice to find groups similar to The Alma Project near of our neighborhoods?
