The Master Bedroom ~ Bedding Reveal

by Kimba on April 26, 2010

in Master Bedroom,decorating

Woohoo!!!! First step COMPLETE! I’m beyond excited to see some changes happening in my master bedroom. Before anything else, I wanted to find bedding that I love. It took hours of shopping (online and in-store) and 2 tries…but I have something I adore!

First, I really thought I wanted a beautiful white quilt. And I did want it. Until I got home and put it on my bed. This first attempt was the Renaissance White Quilt and Sham from Overstock.com. (That link will get you an extra 5% off bedding.)

I loved it, but it took exactly 17 seconds (and one cartwheeling, dirty boy) to make me realize that I’m not a white quilt girl. In my head, I was saying “It’s washable. It’s washable.” But seeing that pristine whiteness next to my jelly-fingered kiddo was stressing me out. Big time. Good thing I figured that out before I made a white slipcover for my sofa, huh?

So back to Overstock it goes. But if you’re in the market for a white quilt, I can tell you its gorgeous.

Enter option #2. I have adored the Matine Toile Quilt from Pottery Barn for ages. And when I saw it in Erin’s bedroom from Rare and Beautiful Treasures, I was completely smitten. I needed me some brown toile.

But even on sale, it was too spendy for my budget. Imagine my delight (complete with squeals and clapping) when I found the Home Toile Quilt at my beloved Target!!!! It’s a slightly modernized toile in a pretty brown color. And they have matching Toile Shams.

If you love it as much as I do, then RUN to Target. RUN! RUN! RUN! I got the last one in my store, but they do still have it online.

Lots of you suggested that I move the cedar chest from in front of the windows to the foot of the bed. So I did and it works. Love it!

Look at the little Pagoda!

The new bedding is the inspiration for the rest of the room. I’m calling it Zen Traditional. Calm and uncluttered with a traditional vibe. Can I do that? Can I invent my own style?

I love it, Kimba! So classy. I love the white, too, but I am totally with you on your decision. The white slipcover I made for my ottoman? Ruined. Not even bleach can salvage that thing. In my world, white and kids don’t go together. We can be the black sheep of blogland together.

I like the brown toile better, too. The white looks great, but that brown is very nice! I just love it when Target or a similar store carries something neat like that. It makes the hunt a little easier!

I have admired that quilt at Target also. I found some king sized shams in that print for $4.00 each on clearance and I didn’t get them. Can you believe that? When i went back, they were gone. I learned my lesson….Your bedroom is coming along nicely.

Oooo! very pretty.

We just got the go ahead to move into our new place on Saturday! I can’t wait to set up a new Master Bedroom!

Kimba!
That looks fabulous! Isn’t it exciting to get new bedding? I love the brown toile. Great find at Target!
I actually went with the white coverlet for my bedroom. And I have four boys! I know I am crazy, but I just had to have the white. It is washable, which is a must.
I revealed my bedroom today. Come by and check it out!
Look forward to seeing the rest of your re-do. :)
Have a blessed day.

I am trying to redo our bedroom. We just moved and the room is huge and I am stumped. I have looked at the quilt a lot at Target. I love it. I can’t wait until we see more!

the simplicity in the bedding is lovely. I’ve never shopped on Overstock, guess I need to get with it, lol.

12 becca April 26, 2010 at 9:57 am

target always comes through. that toile is beautiful, and much more pracitcal than the white. we have white and it is a struggle to keep it clean without kids. if our dog jumps on the bed, you can instantly see where he’s been. i love the cedar chest, too! mine (my great aunt’s) is at the foot of my guest bed.

This is weird because I was just thinking about new bedding this morning. I love what you did with yours! I’m wondering if I can change mine out… I still like it but would like a change. Then again, I probably should get some art on the walls first. It has been seven years!

I like the one you got even more than the PB one. Hooray for Tarjay! The white one looked pretty but I think the toile has more personality and definitely more practicality! I don’t know about you, but I like to eat ice cream in bed once in a while, and who wants to be all stressed out about spilling the whole time!

15 Kimba April 26, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Amen to ice cream in bed!!!

We recently redid our bedroom and the transformation was a amazing. I’ve yet to post the before and after pictures but plan to do so in the next week. Warning: The before picture is AWEFUL!

Can’t wait to see the rest! Before you return the white quilt, did you try doing a combination of the brown bedding and the white? I think it might look nice to have the white quilt as a base, then fold the brown quilt at the foot of the bed. Then use the brown patterned shams with some other accent pillows for color?

It’s going to be beautiful! What a great find! You gotta love Target. I wish we had one in our town.
We have a white coverlet on our bed, but the kids are not allowed on our bed, and we don’t have any pets that get on our bed, so that saves me. But it still does get the occasional kid hand prints on it from time to time.
Can’t wait to see how your whole bedroom comes together! :)

19 Meghan April 26, 2010 at 11:20 am

My sister got that quilt in the full/queen size on clearance for $7.54 at our Target store. I’m not kidding! There was just one, and she saw it first, so she got to buy it.

20 Debbie April 26, 2010 at 11:26 am

Love it! We just got new bedding for our master – totally refreshing. It doesn’t take much to completely change a room.

Love that toile bedding you went with, Kimba! Can you invent your own style ~ absolutely, why not! It’s your bedroom! Looking forward to seeing more of what you do in here.

22 Brenda April 26, 2010 at 12:40 pm

LOVE your new bedding! Beautiful! And I totally think you should create a new style called Zen Traditional cause I’ve been thinking about the same sort of style for my living room. :)

Love the brown toile. It’s funny, I just went out to Homesense last week looking for an all white duvet cover and ended up instead with a black and white toile(ish) set from Ikea instead. I don’t even have little kids anymore but all that white was just making me nervous. Can’t wait to see more of the reveal.

24 Janna April 26, 2010 at 1:19 pm

I just bought the same King quilt at Target 2 wks ago. I had been eyeing it since December but when I found on sale for $44.99, I snatched the last one up. I LOVE it! I was also inspired by Rare & Beautiful Treasures Master Bedroom. I bought the Simply Shabby Chic white sheets with ruffles to go with it. It’s dreamy!

Gorgeous bedding! Great choice! Loving it.
And of course you can invent your own style anytime you want! : )

30 Meredith April 26, 2010 at 3:10 pm

It looks lovely both ways. However, I am partial to the white look and have had a white quilted duvet cover (from the now defunct Eddie Bauer Home – I used to work there) and white shams on my bed for years. It looks like your white quilt but is also a duvet over my down. I wash it about 3-4 times a year and I have had it about 5 years. It is beautiful. I have 3 girls and yes they are a mess but somehow my bed has gone the distance. I can accessorize around it in all kinds of ways against my black bed. Right now it is white with restoration hardware (oulet!) olive velvet euro shams and a throw pillow that is a white blue and olive green toille print.

It takes courage to go white. I am considering it for the front room with white slipcovers. But the comment about the white ottoman scares me.

31 Amanda @ Serenity Now April 26, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I likes it! ;) I have a white bedspread too, but my messy kids keep me from pulling it out….

32 Sherry @ No Minimalist Here April 26, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I saw this bedspread at target and I also loved it! The brown toile looks great in your bedroom.

I have the white from Overstock on my bed and I had the brown toile in my hands debating :) ! The brown is more of an olive though peeps so be warned if you have a lot of other brown accessories you’re trying to work in. Kimba, I love it!

You bet you can invent your own style! And for the record, I love it! I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but I’m not really a white slipcover kind of girl. I know it’s great, but with three boys and two dogs, the thought of it just kind of stresses me out. I love things that are washable, but I love better things that never show dirt in the first place!

And that toile is BROWN? How cool!

I love what you ended up with. I have all white, and I’m over it.
“Zen Traditional” has a nice ring to it. You better trademark that or Pottery Barn will snatch it right up! ; )

38 the domestic fringe April 26, 2010 at 8:57 pm

I understand the white problem. I’d have my entire house white, but I have kids and a dog and I love them more than I love clean. :-)

Your new bedding is beautiful!

I am really enjoying watching the transformation. So much so that I’m posting the changes as they are added. Could you put up a ‘before’ pic next to the ‘after’ pic? Some of my readers may be just tuning in and be wondering what it looked like before.

And I wasn’t crazy about the bedspread, until I saw the ‘little pagoda’. Now my mind is racing with all the possibilities! Good call!
