I am so excited (and nervous) about DIY Day this week because I have something TOTALLY different for you. A couple of months ago, the folks at Underwriters Laboratories (UL) contacted me and asked if they could visit our home with their safety expert, John Drengenberg, and a video crew to talk about DIY safety. WHAT? A video crew in my house? My heart still pounds just thinking about it.
Who is Underwriters Laboratories (UL), you ask? Go take a look at a few of the appliances in your home…your fridge, toaster, coffee grinder, hair dryer…chances are, you’re going to see the UL mark somewhere on the appliance. That’s because the people of UL have been testing products and writing safety standards for over 100 years.
And now that spring DIY season is upon us, UL has something to say to all of us DIY’ers. More than 40 percent of Americans are planning on tackling DIY home improvement projects this year. But beware! Home improvement accidents send hundreds of thousands of people to the emergency room each year. So whether you’re a first-time DIY’er or a veteran DIY guru, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is urging homeowners to make safety a part of your home improvement plan.
