Waaay back in 2008, I made a set of leafy botanical prints that hung in my family room for at least a year. The we did the board and batten treatment on our family room walls and the prints had to come down.
But I loved those prints so much that I wanted to freshen them up for spring and use them somewhere else. I have this funny little stretch of wall that isn’t quite in the family room and isn’t quite in kitchen. I call it the famichen. And it needed a little something.
It was so easy to print out some new artwork from this clipart CD from Dover. I printed directly on translucent velum paper and backed it with some bright green scrapbook paper. Popped it in the old frames and Voila!
I love this artwork because it looks more like pencil drawings. The best part was that I didn’t spend one penny creating it. Love THAT!
It took me way longer to hang the frames in that grid pattern than it did to create the artwork. If anyone bumps them, look out!
If you’re looking for clip art, you can find tons of it for free on the web. But I adore the the Dover Clip Art CD’s and Books.

You made that first set in 1998? Wow, you were quite a clever lass!
I like your new take on the botanicals. Well done! And I love them hanging in that grid pattern. That’s one of my favorite ways to hang things. . . but it is a bugger to get just right, isn’t it?
Your famichen looks smashing.

Beautiful, as usual! I have always used china putty, or earthquake putty we call it here in Alaska, on the back of picture frames so they won’t budge. I pea sized amount on the back of the frame in one corner, then press the frame against the wall, and it wll stay hung straight forever. If you take it down, the putty won’t mark the wall. What a great invention. Also, they make these clear rubber dots that you can find in just about any framing shop that you can stick to the lower edges of your frame so that it won’t move.
How cool is that?

1998 (giggle) I know what you were doing back then
Sometimes simple art like pencil drawings is the best. Especially when hung four together – good call!

hey lady,
I trace my frames on wrapping paper or newspaper and then hang them on the wall and then i just nail through my paper and then replace the paper with the actual frames. VOILA!!!
Too cute! I love the idea of printing them on vellum with scrapbook paper behind it. They look awesome!

I remember when you did your botanical prints. Love the new look too! One trick I’ve learned to keep the frames straight–put a little bit of masking tape in the corner of each frame. No more wiggling! With four active boys, this has been a lifesaver at our house!

Famichen–you are so nutty!
I did something similar for my husband’s office back in 1781 (wink) but did it the hard way–traced botanicals with a brown sharpie on vellum–must remember printing!
You famichen looks great!
I like this fresh take on botanicals–might be copying this one!
