Furniture Rehab with Caromal Colors

in Furniture Rehab,Sponsors

I’ve mentioned before, that my dining room is a bit of a catch-all room, since I do much of my creating in there. I finally decided that I needed some dedicated storage for my paints, papers, glues and beads. A few months ago, I scored a dated old dresser at the Goodwill for a glorious $12! It’s been sitting in there since looking very sad and bedraggled (but still functional).

I knew that I would rehab him, but I was waiting for inspiration to strike. And inspiration struck in the form of my new advertiser, Caromal Colors via Patty Henning at Fabulous Finishes! Patty is a Regional Director for Caromal Colors and she graciously sent me a Distressed for Success kit from their line so that I could try it out on a furniture rehab project and share the results with you.

Note: As always, when I have a sponsor on my blog, the advertisement is payed for. My opinion is not.

Here’s what I used for this project:

  • Caromal Colors textured base coat in parchment
  • Caromal Colors toner
  • Chip brush (natural bristle paint brush)
  • Sandpaper

The minute that I opened the jar of paint, I knew there was something different about these products. The paint is SUPER thick…like the texture of pudding. According to their website, that’s why you get such fantastic coverage without primer. Yeah, you read that right. Without primer! Or sanding! I love that!

I don’t have photos of the step-by-step process. If you want to see that, you’ll have to come back tomorrow, when I’ll post a completely embarrassing video of me actually doing this project. There’s a reason that I blog and not vlog, people.

Today, I’ll just tell you that this stuff is awesome. It went on easily without any sanding or priming which saved tons of time. The coverage is fantastic too.

It gives you the most wonderful texture, (either brushy or bumpy or stippled…you choose) that grabs hold of the toner and gives a beautifully aged, antiqued or distressed finish (again, you choose). I made it way harder than it needed to be by stressing over the fact that the finish had texture in it. It’s supposed to be there and it looks beautiful when it’s done.

If I were going to paint my kitchen or bath cabinets, I would definitely use these products. They are so flexible because of all the beautiful colors which can be layered and used with the toner to create stunning farmhouse-y, Pottery Barn looking cabinets and furniture.

Here are some projects from Patty’s blog:
Kitchen cabinet makeover for less than $100
Updating an oak desk
Updating an old armoire
Easy light fixture facelifts

If you would like to make a purchase from Caromal Colors, you can click here to go directly to their store. Make sure that you use the code PattyH in the Discount Coupon field. That’s the only way that Patty gets credit for the sale and you get a discount on the shipping.

I saw a video of this product posted on My Sweet Savanah several months back, and wondered where to buy the paint. Now, in the middle of my kitchen remodel, I've found what I'm going to do to my cabinets! I had even posted a picture on my blog of a distressed cabinet, wishing and hoping I would be able to achieve the look. Thanks for the video, and add me to the drawing! I'm going now to make a post on my blog for another entry.

Okay, my blogpost is up, including pictures of my before. Since I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED the gorgeous kitchen cabinet redo on Patty's blog, that get's my vote. I'll do it in my own house just as soon as I win!

I love the kitchen cabinet makeover. If I win, I'll work with a an old pine armoire that needs some help! Thanks for the give-away.

Great job with the dresser!

I Love the light fixtures. I've always hated the lamps in my bedroom. You have completely inspired me. Although, if I win, I may need to head over to Goodwill for a more substantial project to really get busy!

I love all the projects, especially the light fixtures! I currently have a small end table I am wanting to refinish for my new grandson's nursery!

I stumbled across her blog once and had since lost it so I'm glad you blogged about her.
My choice is the kitchen and if I won I would make over a dresser I've had for about a year and was unsure of what I wanted to do with it. I love all the colors this comes in and it would be hard to choose so I would probably post about it and let the readers pick.

I lvoe the cabinet projects- and that is just what I would do with a kit, my kitchen cabinets!

8 Staci August 5, 2009 at 12:59 pm

I love the kitchen cabinets.
I would refinish this huge wall unit. It was a gift from my parents. They had it for over 30 years. It is very functional, but the color (teak) doesn't go with our decor. I am been trying to figure out what to do with it. This would be prefect.

I like all the featured projects, but if I have to pick a favorite, I'll say the armoire ~ pretty, do-able project (not overwhelming) that makes a big impact. If chosen as lucky winner, I will attempt to makeover an old coffee table that has good bones, but is dated. (Although I will have to do it covertly, because diXymister thinks painting wood is an abomination). ThanX for the opportunity!

I can't tell whether one kit would be enough to do an entire set of kitchen cabinets. But the $100 kitchen makeover was my favorite and I totally need to paint my kitchen cabinets. They are flat (meaning no decorations on the doors), orangey brown, varnished cabinets from the 1960s. Help! This product seems perfect, no sanding, no priming = perfect.

I really liked her post on the light fixtures. I repainted my exterior a couple years ago and have not really found anything great to do with the lights, this might just be it!

12 My-Garden of Eden August 5, 2009 at 5:58 pm

This is just what I was waiting for. I have a HUGE kitchen table and 6 chairs(sitting in my garage) that need to be redone. I LOVE this style and better yet I wouldn't have to sand or prime (that is why it is not done yet:)). I would love to use this paint. Thank you for posting this. This will be my LIFESAVOR with 3 kids under three and needing a table to eat at!! Thanks Kimba…you dresser looks awesome!!

13 Marianna August 5, 2009 at 6:16 pm

that looks so awesome!!
I love the armoire makeover too!
I think I would love to makeover an old beat up dining room table that I use as my craft table and I'd love to use the Parchment like how you did this dresser, it looks amazing!

14 The Scooper August 5, 2009 at 6:36 pm

All the finishes were fab! But I think I like the armoire one the best since it's closest to the type of piece I would rehab. I have a thrift store hutch / china cabinet that has been sitting in my garage for 2 years. I'd been thinking to just do it plain black but I would definitely give one of these finishes a try. Great product!

15 Cheri Peoples August 5, 2009 at 6:47 pm

I love them all but I guess I would vote on the cabinets just because that is the project I am looking to work on at my parents house but they are all amazing.

I will post about this and twitter about it as well.

Wow. I'm really impressed with this product. The armoire is definitely my favorite. All of our furniture is cheap second hand that could us a second chance like this! Probably start with a shelf and then move on to the coffee table…

17 Barb August 5, 2009 at 8:45 pm

I love how you did your dresser. It is my favorite of all i saw done with this product!
The kitchen cupboards would be my choice from their pics.

I would either do a desk, or a small cabinet.
I have both (and many others actually)awaiting some wonderful transition.
thanks for sharing this wonderful product.

blessings,

The kitchen cabinets look amazing. I would love to re-do a dresser in my newborn daughter's room. It is so ugly and I haven't been able to find good inspiration…until now. Thank you!!

19 Jennifer August 6, 2009 at 11:25 am

My favorite by far is the kitchen cabinets!!! I would love to do mine black (from white), but am too scared!!!
If I win, I will start by using the winning product to paint a small dresser that was my grandmother's. If that works well, I have an old armoir that was my great-grandmother's that I have been talking about painting, but again have been too scared. The product sounds like something even I can do!!! I SO hope I win!

It's a tossup for me. For sheer drama, you can't beat the kitchen cabinet makeovers. But the light fixtures turned out great!

I'd redo an old beaded board cabinet that's currently languishing in my garage. Right now it's covered in pigeon poo (it came that way, I don't have pigeons in my garage.), but I'm wanting a slightly different look.

I am soooo geeked about the response to our give away products – I've explained this before, I am NOT the marketing type at all – I hate having to work on bids for clients, I hate pricing jobs, I don't like money talk, and the last thing I want to do is sound like a traveling shoe salesman – i just LOVE being creative… hanging off a ladder, creating lovely finishes on clients walls, and now, dabbling and creating with these great Caromal Colours products. I believe in them, have seen what I can do with them, but more importantly, have seen what others have done with them – simply, affordably, and resulting in a great finish and a really happy, satisfied homeowner.

So, with that said, let me go back to reading over these near 300 posts – you have NOT made choosing a winner easy!

If I was rich I would do an OPRAH move and send ALL of you a kit!!! Wouldn't that be sweet?

Wow, that dresser looks amazing! I have a desk/hutch combo that I picked up at Goodwill that is in desperate need of a makeover. used office furniture

25 Thomas August 9, 2009 at 3:31 am

I am so excited about how easy this looks… used office furniture

26 Christine Edwards August 9, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Wow, that looks like a really cool product. The kitchen cabinets on Patty's site are a knock-out. I need to paint mine, but that project won't be quick and easy. I do have an old dresser in dire need of a makeover that I've been planning on doing here soon. I love the way your dresser turned out, and would love to give it a try. Thanks for sharing this.

Love the cabinets–I have an old china cabinet on my "to do" list!

28 Meredith August 12, 2009 at 6:48 am

I think the project that I love the most is the Kitchen Makeover for under $100. I would love to use one of their "techniques" on the bathroom cabinents in my kiddos bathroom. What a fun look. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I have a Mexican pine armoire exactly like this one that I want to rehab with Caromal Colors. My question is…how much do I need to order? I want to do the white like this dresser. It is fabulous!

33 Sharon October 19, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Oh…one more thing. I don't have any refinishing talent. Is this really as simple as I hope it is?
