Today’s Thrifty Treasures

in Favorite Things

My garage sale-ing this week was a total flop. I managed to make it to at least 8 sales on Saturday morning (without my kids…heaven!!!) and picked up exactly 1 thing. That’s just how it goes though…Some thrifting days are better than others.

But the good news is that I got some awesome bargains earlier in the week in a couple of unexpected locations. It just goes to show you that you never know where you’ll find a fabulous bargain.

My first bargain was these beautiful outdoor rugs from the Garden Center at Lowes! I saw these two beauties laying off to the side by themselves which made me curious. When I turned them over, I saw this price tag!

$20 each! Regularly $130! Woohooooo!!! I snapped those babies up so fast! Actually, I ran (in my high-heel sandals) to find a flat bed cart and prayed that no one else would discover my treasure before I got back. I was a woman-possessed!

I think that they were the rugs used in the in-store display which means that they’re probably pretty dirty. But the great thing about these outdoor rugs is that you can wash them off with a hose so easily. If that doesn’t get off all the dirt, then a scrub brush and some OxyClean will finish the job. For $20, I’m willing to put in a little elbow grease. One will go on my back porch and I haven’t decided about the other one.

This pretty metal basket was my one garage sale find this weekend. For $2.00, I decided to grab it even though I don’t know what I’m doing with it yet.

And finally, one of my favorite finds ever! This huge painting was $4.00! It’s actually a real (unsigned) painting. I’m guessing that painting was someone’s hobby and somehow it ended up at Goodwill.

I know. I know. You think it’s scary ugly with it’s 1970′s frame and all. I agree. Sorta. Click here to see how it’s already been transformed! I am totally in LOVE now!!!!

4 bucks for the frame, good work can't wait to see what you do to it.

8 Older and Wisor July 26, 2009 at 5:54 pm

Lowes is having a great clearance on kids curtains right now too – I just scored a grommet topped valance for $3.99!

Maybe it's just me, but if the frame on the painting were black, I think it'd be pretty funky. Good funky that is.

It was meant to be, you and the rug! Great bargain! :) I am interested to see what you do with the painting. If you have a chance to stop by my blog this week, I have my 200th post Giveaway today with my Thrifty Treasures. :)

10 Chelle July 26, 2009 at 6:15 pm

And we all run to Lowes… :)

11 duchess July 26, 2009 at 6:17 pm

I'm trying not to be jealous of the rugs & I'm hoping that lovely picture will turn into something that has to do with chalkboard & spray paint.

12 Michelle@Fromhousetohome July 26, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Amazing deal! I was just at Lowes tonight but no rugs, hmph. They did have some curtains for a steal, when I looked closer there was a sign saying take an extra 50% off the lowest price. $25 curtains for $3!!

LOVE the painting!

I love that you found rugs, and based on your pic, they look huge! Can't beat a great rug sale. I scored one this past week at the Frontgate Outlet. I paid just $32.50, and it looks great in my Foyer.

16 Amy Lynne July 26, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Great job on the rugs! I would have been running for a cart too!

17 Deidra July 26, 2009 at 7:32 pm

I got a similar bargain on one of those outdoor rugs at HD last year the end of the season. It's wonderful! I've used it in my kitchen, on my patio, and now it's in my daughter's bedroom. When it needs to be cleaned I just take a hose to it on the patio.

18 tales from an oc cottage July 26, 2009 at 7:43 pm

20 Jill July 26, 2009 at 8:21 pm

good finds on the rugs! i totally felt that way about a side table i found at a thrift store this week for THREE dollars! I wanted it so bad, basically because it was a good deal, not because i know what i'm going to do with it! i may fix it up and sell it. i swear my heart was beating a mile a minute and the adrenaline kicked in, as i hurried to pay for it and get it to the back door before the other gal who was looking at it could buy it!

21 Rhonda July 26, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Love the outdoor rugs! Great price and find!

22 Lisa @ Stop and Smell the Chocolates July 26, 2009 at 9:00 pm

25 Carmen July 26, 2009 at 9:31 pm

Gotta love Lowes clearance! You never know what you'll find!

I need a wire basket/bowl just like that for my dining room table. I like that painting and I don't think it's scary at all. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

26 Tiina of LiviaConcept July 26, 2009 at 11:03 pm

I agree with @Older and Wisor and most of the people, the painting is quite funky! the rugs are really nice, and I would pray paint the basket in metal pink I quess (I just saw the specific color yesterday in a paint shop, an am dying to find something to paint with that!)
have a lovely monday!
